Class 5 of 6, Prompts 13-15

Continue your Art Journaling exploration with Shawnacy as your guide. This week students are prompted to; dedicate a page to someone you admire, create an unusual animal and add some words to your journal that are borrowed from a conversation you have overheard.

Prompt 13 - Dedication Page

Dedicate a page to someone. Think of someone you admire perhaps an artist or musician, or a relative or mentor.  What  do you like about them? Do they always wear a certain color? Do they have pets? Do they have hobbies or share similar interests as you?

Materials:

  • Glue
  • Paint and/or Gesso
  • Paint brushes
  • Water container
  • Images and words that remind you of your subject
  • Pencil
  • Pens

Directions:

With your subject in mind gather things that remind you of that person. Include found words from your book or other magazines, if you wish. You can use any of the other prompts to build your page. Layering is used here, You can also write on the page about what you appreciate or admire about them.

Prompt 14 - Create an Animal

Use your imagination to envision a new animal.  Design a page to house your animal.  And then create that animal using images, drawing, etc!

Materials:

  • Watercolor paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Water container
  • Glue
  • Images of animals
  • Paper for layering
  • Pens

Directions:

Think about the habitat for your new animal. Where would it live? What sounds would it make? Create the “home” for your animal. Shawnacy used two ideas, one is a bird so she had some sheet music on the page and used a green wash to suggest a tree or bush where it might live.  She added photos of leaves and some moss as a nest. Then she used Markmaking and wrote some additional quotes.

Prompt 15 - Conversations out of Context

Steal some lines from a conversation you overhear.  You can think of this as found words, but these are overheard instead of cut from your book or a magazine.

Materials:

  • Pens
  • A page from your journal

Directions:

Use your everyday experience to gather the words; listen to someone’s conversation, or part of a television show or podcast. Take part of the conversation, a sentence or statement and add it to a page in your journal. It may not make sense, it is out of context after all!  Shawnacy added them to the above Prompt 14 - Create an Animal pages but they can go on any page you want.
